What to Write in a Get Well Card?

Even the strongest and healthiest of people cannot be sure that they won’t get ill at some point in their lives.

Sending a get well card can improve a person's mood and lift their spirits, which in turn can have a positive effect on their health.

So, if you’ve decided to write a get well card, taken a pen, and you didn’t know what to say, besides “Hope you get well soon!”, then try thinking about specific wishes that are related only to that special friend of relative. If you’re still stuck on what to write and how to get started, we’ve listed a few pointers for you below to get you on your way.

Start with a warm greeting

Consider to whom you are writing. You can use “Dear” when writing to your parents, loved ones, or close friends. A warm greeting – is a great start for a get well card. If you want to make it a little less formal you may start it similar to how you would start a text with ‘Hey Paul’ for example.

Be interested in what is happening

It’s highly likely that the person whom you are writing this get well card to is getting bored while being ill. There are only so many puzzles you can do and only so long you can lay in bed! It’s a good idea to add some detail to the card so that it takes longer than 1 minute to read. By asking about them you will show that you are interested in how they are and care about how they are feeling. Also, be specific in detail; ask about something that you both have discussed the last time you met.

Get well wish

Write some warm “get well” wishes, so that the person knows that he or she is missed and loved. Warm wishes will always keep the person in a good mood and don’t be afraid to add some love when writing. The more positive and loving words you write – the better it will make them feel.

Tell them what is happening

Keep the person informed about events, either personal or in the media, that they might have missed. This way he won’t feel as isolated if they are unable to keep u to date with what's going on. Go into some extra detail on what this person is interested in whether it be sport, fashion, business etc..

Add a quote

Why not try adding a quote which is something a little different? It could add some more encouragement to your card. Look for some quotes on the Internet and write them at the start or at the ending of your card.

Here are some suggestions:

“Remember to just take it one day at a time and in no time, you will be completely healthy and smiling once again”

“You’re in all of our warmest thoughts as you recover from your accident”

“Tough times don’t last, tough people, do.”

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

“We should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us.”

“Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.”

“What you do today can improve all of your tomorrows.”

“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.”

“This too shall pass.”

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

Offer your help

It’s possible someone who is unwell doesn’t have much ability to make everyday work. Offering support will show them that you care and will cheer them up. Try bringing something from the shop for them or just help them cleaning or washing the dishes. Offering your help in the card will bring more warmth to it.

To show that you care about the person – a get well card will always come in handy. But how about taking your love and support to the next level?
